Irish president given shirt as tribute to Derry City captain
The Irish president has been presented with a Wales football team shirt in memory of Derry City captain Ryan McBride.
Michael D Higgins was given the number five shirt ahead of the Republic of Ireland v Wales World Cup Qualifier on Friday night.
Ryan McBride, 27, was found dead at home on Sunday, a day after he led his side in a 4-0 League of Ireland win over Drogheda United.
The cause of death is not yet known.
A minute of applause to remember the defender along with Ray Brady and Milo Corcoran was also held inside the Aviva Stadium.
In the fifth minute of the game there was another round of applause in memory of the Derry City captain - a tribute to the number five shirt that he wore.
His funeral on Thursday was attended by President Higgins.
