Man tied and head-bagged in Kilkeel burglary
A man in his 60s has suffered facial and head injuries during a break-in in Kilkeel, County Down.
Two or three men entered his home in Slieveshan Park at about midnight on Tuesday.
They tied up the man, assaulted him and covered his head with a pillowcase before ransacking the house.
They stayed for about 30 minutes, leaving the man tied up in his bedroom before leaving. The householder managed to free himself and raised the alarm.
A sum of money is believed to have been taken during the incident.
Those responsible must be caught and face the full weight of the justice system, said South Down MP Margaret Ritchie.
"This attack is a shock to the entire community and totally out of character for the area and its residents," she added.
Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
