Three police officers injured in Carrickfergus assault

A police officer has suffered a broken ankle in an assault in County Antrim.

The officer was one of three responding to a reported fight between two men in the Victoria Road area of Carrickfergus at around 19.15 BST on Tuesday.

Insp Michael Simpson said one of the men struck out at the officers.

He said he broke the ankle of one officer, caused bruising and cuts to the body of another, and punched the third in the face.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene.
