Londonderry woman faces jail for £42,000 benefit fraud

A judge has told a Londonderry woman to prepare for a jail sentence after she admitted £42,000 income support fraud.

Deborah O'Kane from Victoria Gate in the Waterside admitted making a false declaration to obtain benefits and two charges of failing to declare a change in her employment.

Judge Piers Grant at the city's Crown Court told the 43-year-old her fraud was "substantial".

She committed the offences between March 2004 and May 2010.

O'Kane was released on continuing bail and will be sentenced next month.
