North West parking protest at Stormont

Representatives from Londonderry, Limavady and Strabane will go to Stormont on Thursday to oppose plans to extend charges for on-street parking.

They will be joined by chambers of trade from across Northern Ireland.

The charges have been proposed by Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy.

Martin McCrossan, from the Londonderry City Centre Traders and Business Forum, described it as a "tax on town centres."

"If there is a charge for parking in our town centres, people simply won't park," he said.

"They will go out of town which will have a huge effect, it's about how that will impact on traders."
