NI and Celtic footballer Paddy McCourt scored the ultimate goal at the weekend when he tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend in his home town of Londonderry.

The Scottish Premier League and Northern Ireland midfielder married Derry girl Laura Hegarty at Our Lady of Lourdes church in Steelstown on Saturday.

The 27-year-old groom, known as the 'Derry Pele', and his bride were joined at the ceremony by their four-year-old daughter Cora, who was the flower-girl and their son Luke.

Paddy McCourt's brother, Harry, said the 190 wedding guests had really enjoyed the whole weekend.

"It was great for Paddy to be able to catch up with all his friends and former team mates from Derry," he said.

"The wedding went really well, Paddy said it was even better than he could have imagined and the staff at the Solis were brilliant.

"The whole weekend went great and Laura looked absolutely lovely."

Fellow Celtic and Northern Ireland team-mate Niall McGinn was among the guests, along with Derry City boss Stephen Kenny.

The reception was held at the Solis Lough Eske Castle hotel in Donegal.

The happy couple will spend their six-day honeymoon in Dubai.
