Arrest over Coalisland hit-and-run death of Declan Quinn

A 21-year-old man has been arrested over the hit-and-run death of a man in Coalisland, County Tyrone, at the weekend.

Declan Quinn, 37, from the town, was knocked down on the Gortgonis Road at about 1030 BST on Saturday.

On Monday, police launched a murder inquiry after Mr Quinn died in hospital.

A 20-year-old arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and withholding information has been released on bail.

A silver Vauxhall Corsa, believed to be involved in the collision, was later found in the Drumcairne Forest on the Ballygittle Road, Stewartstown.

Sinn Fein MLA Francie Molloy has asked for any witnesses to the accident to come forward to police.

"Sinn Fein offer our sincere sympathy to the Declan Quinn's family. This is a tragic event which I'm sure has left the family distraught and has shocked the local community," he said.

"The facts surrounding this case still need to be brought to light and I call on anyone with information on Declan Quinn's death to bring it forward to the PSNI."
