Derry parents have son's car crushed after police chase

A court has heard that the parents of a Londonderry student, arrested after a police chase, had his car crushed after his arrest.

Terence Porter, 21, from Campion Court, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and other offences on 9 July.

Londonderry Magistrates' Court was told that the police tried to stop Porter on suspicion of speeding through Newbuildings.

However, he sped away and collided with the police car at Lisamore Avenue.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said Mr Porter, a student at the North West College of Technology, panicked when he was signalled to stop.

The lawyer said his client had bought the car a few days earlier for £500 without his parents' permission. Sentencing was adjourned until 19 August.
