Limavady dealer fined for clocked car sale

A car dealer from Limavady has been fined £1,000 for selling a clocked car with a false MOT certificate and service history.

Anthony Ryan Hazlett, 31, from Meadowvale Park, admitted the charges at the town's courthouse on Wednesday.

Trading Standards said that Hazlett had advertised a BMW on the internet with a mileage of 74,000 when its correct mileage was 152,231.

A false service history was also supplied with the car.

During the investigation, it also emerged that Hazlett had placed other car adverts without declaring he was a car trader.

Raymond Dolan from Trading Standards said the public had a right to know the bona fides of the individual selling the car.

"He was obliged to declare his true status as a car trader.

"Furthermore, he was also obliged to establish the true history of the vehicle prior to its sale.

"The hidden car trade is all too prevalent in the north west and it is something the Trading Standards Service investigates on an ongoing basis."
