Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) has said power has been restored to 3,000 homes and businesses in Londonderry.

A spokesperson said the failure happened shortly after 12:00 BST on Monday after damage was caused to an underground electricity cable by a third party.

Areas affected included Steelstown, Shantallow and Gransha.

The spokesperson said emergency repair teams were able to restore supplies.

"Emergency repair teams from NIE, the electricity network company, responded immediately to isolate the damaged cable and restore power to customers via alternative network circuits".
