Donegal developer ordered to pay bank E12m

A Donegal businessman has been told he must pay back almost 12m euro to National Irish Bank.

On Tuesday the commercial court in Dublin granted a summary judgement order against Brendan Gildea, of Brookside Villas, Magherennan, Letterkenny.

Another order of about six million euro was granted against his wife Tessie.

The couple had personally guaranteed of the debts of their property company, Brendan Gildea Ltd.

It was badly hit by the recession, and the couple were left with debts of E18m.

Gildea, who was too ill to appear in court, has been a well-known businessman and developer in Donegal for more than 30 years.
