Derry teenager climbed police wall

A Londonderry teenager has received a four month suspended sentence after he climbed onto a security wall at Strand Road police station on Monday.

The city's magistrates court was told that 18 year old Thomas Ward from Daisy Field Park called at the police station

for an appointment and panicked when he thought he was going to be remanded in custody.

He spat at and heckled police officers who tried to talk him down from the 16 foot high wall.

He also refused to come down when fire and rescue officers arrived.

Ward admitted charges of disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest.

He was also ordered to pay £500 in compensation to the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.
