Man charged with raping Londonderry teen refused bail

A 20-year-old man who denies raping and assaulting a girl in the grounds of Foyle and Londonderry College last July has had his application to be released on bail refused.

Adam Titheridge has been in custody since he was charged with raping and assaulting the 15-year-old schoolgirl.

Londonderry magistrates court was told that there was strong forensic and medical evidence against him.

He was refused bail because of concerns that he might abscond.

A police officer said a potential bail address in Kent for the defendant was unacceptable because there were six schools in the immediate vicinity.

The officer also told the court that the defendant had an emotionally disturbed background and had spent much of his childhood in care due to neglect.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in court again in April.
