Man charged with Derry PPS gates theft

Londonderry Magistrates Court

A 22 year old man has appeared in court in Londonderry charged with stealing a set of steel gates belonging to the Public Prosecution Service.

The gates were stolen from outside its offices on the Limavady Road in the city.

Tom Stokes from the Old Fort in Strathfoyle was also charged with converting criminal property by selling the gates for scrap.

He's alleged to have committed the offences on 21 February 2012.

Mr Stokes' solicitor Seamus Quigley applied for the hearing to be adjourned for four weeks because he said it was not an open and shut case.

His request was granted by District Judge Barney McElhome to enable the prosecution to prepare a full file.
