Microlight pilot hurt in County Donegal crash
A microlight aircraft pilot has been seriously injured in a crash in County Donegal.
It happened at about 13:45 BST on Sunday at Carnone, near the village of Convoy.
The man was trying to land the aircraft on a private airstrip but it fell short of the runway.
Gardai said conditions at the time were very windy. The man, who is originally from Buncrana, has been airlifted to hospital.
He was taken by the Malin Head Coast Guard helicopter.
"Ambulance control had sent an advance paramedic to the scene and they managed to secure the casualty themselves having extracted him from the crashed microlight," said Mark Brownsell from Malin Head Coast Guard.
"Once our helicopter landed, it was essentially a matter of getting him to hospital as quickly as possible, and the quickest way to do this was obviously by helicopter."
An air accident investigation is to be carried out.
