A 23-year-old man who ran off without paying a £6.20 taxi fare was jailed for two months at Londonderry Magistrates Court.

Kevin Downey from Nailor's Row in the city, called the taxi company and asked to be collected at a house in Strathfoyle.

When the driver dropped Downey off at an address in Galliagh, he ran away without paying the fare.

Downey admitted committing the offence on 18 June this year.

He already has 38 previous convictions and is currently a remand prisoner on other matters.
