30 new jobs at software company 8over8 in Londonderry
A software company in Londonderry is to create more than 30 new jobs as part of a £2.7m expansion programme.
8over8 is based at the University of Ulster Science Park at Magee.
Gerry McGurgan, a director and co-founder of the firm, said the bulk of the jobs would be in Derry.
"These are all highly skilled jobs, primarily in software development, but also in consultancy, marketing and accounts management.
"The software development jobs will mostly be in Derry and that means up to 20 jobs for Derry," he said.
8over8 is an international software company which works in the oil and gas industry.
It recently signed a new contract with the energy giant Shell and works with BP, Chevron and large national oil companies in the Middle East.
It started out as an incubator business and is still based at the university. It also has offices in Portugal.
Eddie Friel, the head of business development in the Office of Innovation at Magee, said 8over8's software is considered a 'market leader'.
"The great thing is that that software has been developed locally and is going to be deployed globally.
"They are one of a number of local companies that have gone on to build a world wide reputation."
