Derry father's anger over attack on son

A Londonderry man has said his son could have been killed in what he described as a "brutal and unprovoked attack" in the Creggan area at the weekend.

Ricky Callan, 20, suffered a broken eye socket, cracked jaw and cheekbone after three men attacked him outside St Joseph's school on Sunday morning.

He is now waiting on surgery for his injuries.

His father Matthew said it was a savage attack.

"He was literally inches away from getting killed," he said.

"He could have lost his sight, he could have lost more than his sight, he honestly could have lost his life.

"Everybody knows that he is a quiet boy and he would do anything for anybody.

"If these three boys are not caught, there is nothing to say they are not going to do it again."
