A County Londonderry man has been jailed for four months for threatening a social worker and a 15-year-old girl with a knife.

Kyle Rowan, 22, from Kings Lane in Ballykelly, committed the offences on 27 March.

Londonderry Magistrates' Court heard the threat happened at the Northland Road office of the Praxis organisation.

Rowan threatened to slit the throat of the 15-year-old girl and waved a knife in front of a social worker.

A defence lawyer told deputy district judge Liam McStay that since Rowan was remanded in custody, he has refused to come out of his prison cell to meet visitors.

Mr McStay described Rowan, who has three previous convictions for assaulting women, as an "aimless drifter".

Jailing Rowan for four months, Mr McStay said he was an "aggressive and violent man".
