Justice

The trial of three men, who face a combined total of 85 child sex abuse charges, is expected to last a minimum of six weeks, Londonderry Crown Court has been told.

The three defendants, who cannot be named for legal reasons, replied "not guilty" at their arraignment.

The charges cover dates between 1972 and 1998.

A provisional trial date has been fixed for October.

The charges include rape, cruelty to children, gross indecency and making indecent photographs of children.

It took the court clerk 20 minutes to put the charges to the defendants.

Two of the defendants were returned to custody and the third was released on bail.
