Man pleads guilty to cannabis find worth £400,000

A 34-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a number of charges linked to the discovery of cannabis valued in excess of £400,000.

The cannabis was found in a van which was stopped and searched by police in the Galliagh area of Londonderry last year.

Mark McPhillips, from the Northland Road in the city, was arrested after driving the van across the border.

Londonderry Crown Court heard that he had collected the drugs in Sligo.

At his re arraignment, McPhillips pleaded guilty to possessing and possessing with intent to supply the cannabis which was found on 14 May 2012.

McPhillips also admitted transferring criminal property by lodging £76,000 into an Ulster Bank account and he pleaded guilty to converting criminal property by buying two houses and a jeep.

He committed those offences between June 2006 and June 2012.

He was remanded in continuing custody until he is sentenced on 4 November.
