A 27-year-old man from Londonderry is "critically ill" in hospital in Thailand after he was involved in an alleged hit and run in Bangkok.

Richard Quigley was on a motorbike taxi when the accident happened on Thursday.

Stephen Quigley, Richard's brother, has flown out to be at his bedside.

Richard moved to Bangkok three years ago for work.

"Richard is the youngest of four boys and when we first heard about the accident you just think the worst," said Stephen Quigley.

"We got a photo of Richard in bed with an ice pack on his heart. It's not how we know him. It's heart breaking.

"We've been told that he is in a critical but stable condition.

"He was on a motorbike taxi, we have heard, when another taxi hit the vehicle. Richard came off the bike.

"He has a fractured skull and had blood clots near the brain which made him terribly sick.

"It has been such a shock to us all."
