Ballykelly man remanded on charge of assaulting woman

A man from Ballykelly, County Londonderry, has been remanded in custody charged with assaulting his former partner and stealing her car.

Patrick Morgan, 39, from Churchill Road, is alleged to have committed the offences in Ballykelly and in Coleraine on 26 October.

Mr Morgan has 225 previous criminal convictions.

He is also charged with causing criminal damage and driving offences.

He is charged with causing damage to a bedroom door in his ex-partner's house by headbutting it, driving while drunk, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

The district judge described the defendant as a "danger" to his ex-partner and to her friends, as well as being a danger to other road users.

The defendant was remanded in custody until 14 November.
