Magilligan Prison unit evacuated after minor fire

Magilligan Prison The NIFRS and the PSNI attended the fire on Monday afternoon

Prisoners and staff had to leave a unit of Magilligan Prison in County Londonderry on Monday afternoon following a minor fire.

A fire broke out at an accommodation unit at about 12:30 BST on Monday.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the fire along with police and the incident was dealt with by 13:30 BST.

The prison is now operating normally and no injuries to staff, visitors or prisoners have been reported.
