Strabane shop staff threatened during knife robbery

A woman has been threatened by a man with a knife during a robbery in Strabane.

The attacker entered the shop on the Melmount Road at about 19:20 BST on Wednesday. He told the member of staff to empty the till before fleeing the area with a sum of money.

Sinn Féin councillor Brian McMahon said staff had been left "badly traumatised".

"This is now the second time in 18 months that this essential community service has been robbed. There is a lot of anger at yet another robbery in our community and my thoughts are with the staff who had to endure this nightmare ordeal," he added.

Police say the man was about 5ft 8ins (1.72m) tall and was wearing a grey hooded top, a white scarf covering his mouth and grey tracksuit bottoms.

Earlier this year a pharmacy next door to the shop was also targeted by thieves.
