Strabane gun attack: Man shot in legs in Ballycolman estate

A man has been taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to his legs after being shot in Strabane, County Tyrone.

Police were called to the Ballycolman estate in the town on Thursday at about 19:00 BST.

They have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

SDLP councillor Patsy Kelly described the shooting as a "barbaric assault on the victim and an attack on the entire community".

He said: "Once again, those intent on violence have brought pain and misery to Strabane. Those behind (the shooting) have set themselves up as judge, jury and executioner with no regard for this man, his family or the wider community.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the victim of this brutal attack and his family this evening.

"I would urge anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact the police as soon as possible."
