Man charged with sex offences against 12-year-old boy

A 23-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with sexual offences against a 12-year-old boy in Belfast.

James McQuiston, from Highcairn Drive in the city, faces a total of seven charges.

He is alleged to have committed the offences on dates between August 2010 and and his arrest last week.

Mr McQuiston nodded in the dock of Belfast Magistrates Court to confirm he understood the allegations against him.

No bail application was made, but his lawyer did attempt to stop his client's name being published.

However, a detective constable, who connected Mr McQuiston to the charges, told the court there was no family connection between him and the alleged victim.

The judge refused the request to shield the identity of the accused.
