Funeral held for Sir Cyril Smith


Hundreds of mourners lined the streets of Rochdale ahead the funeral of the town's former MP, and mayor, Sir Cyril Smith.

Sir Cyril served as the Liberal and later Liberal Democrat MP for the town between 1972 and 1992.

He was one of the party's most recognisable and high-profile figures, retiring from Parliament in 1992.

Sir Cyril died on 3 September, aged 82. The service to celebrate his life was held at Rochdale Town Hall.
