The author and journalist Tony Parsons poured scorn on claims that the child born to William and Kate could be the "first classless sovereign", as he believes Britain had never been more divided.

He said it has never been more difficult to get ahead in the UK and the royal child would be born to lead a country with people divided by "wealth, privilege and opportunity".
