Date set for ex-MP MacShane's expenses hearing

Former MP Denis MacShane will appear at Southwark Crown Court later this month charged with false accounting over his parliamentary expenses.

Mr MacShane gave no indication of a plea when he appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

The 65-year-old was given unconditional bail by chief magistrate Howard Riddle.

A former minister, he resigned as an MP in November 2012 after a parliamentary committee said he had wrongfully claimed at least £7,500 in expenses.

The forthcoming hearing will take place on 27 September.
