Ed Miliband 'appalled' by Daily Mail article on late father

1 October 2013 Last updated at 12:15 BST

Labour leader Ed Miliband says he is ''appalled'' at an article in the Daily Mail newspaper about his late father, entitled ''The Man Who Hated Britain.''

Ed Miliband's father, Ralph, who died in 1994, was a Jewish academic who had fled Nazi-occupied Belgium shortly before WWII to live in London.

The newspaper quotes an essay he wrote as a teenager, questioning what he called ''rabid nationalism'' in the UK.

Ed Miliband says his father ''loved Britain'' and he felt compelled to take steps to defend his good name.
