Boris Johnson 'most popular' politician for Google searches

Boris Johnson has got one over his long-time rival David Cameron - taking the accolade of the most searched-for politician on Google in the UK in 2013.

The mayor of London pushed the prime minister into third place, with Mr Cameron also eclipsed by his deputy Nick Clegg who came in second.

Other MPs to make it into the top 10 included Maria Miller, Harriet Harman, Theresa May and Stella Creasy.

The late Baroness Thatcher was the fifth most searched for individual.

The former prime minister, who died in April, finished one place below Nelson Mandela and above the likes of Nigella Lawson, Lou Reed and Peter Capaldi.

Google's Zeitgeist survey reveals which search queries had the largest volume of traffic in 2013.

Former culture secretary Jeremy Hunt was the most searched-for British politician in 2012.
