UK military cuts and spending: Dannatt on Gates' claims

16 January 2014 Last updated at 15:22 GMT

Ex-US Defence Secretary Robert Gates' claims about UK military spending do have a "ring of truth", said a former UK Chief of the General Staff.

Lord Dannatt told Andrew Neil on the Daily Politics that Britain would have to take his comments "on the chin and look at (them) very, very carefully".

Mr Gates said in Thursday's BBC Radio 4 interview that cuts to the UK defence budget meant its armed forces have "limited" capabilities.
