Labour MP Jack Dromey has accused the the Daily Mail newspaper of "dirty gutter journalism" over its reporting of what it says are historical links between him and a campaign group, the Paedophile Information Exchange.

Mr Dromey and his wife, Labour's Deputy Leader Harriet Harman, were prominent figures in the National Council for Civil Liberties - the NCCL - in the 1970s - to which the PIE became affiliated.

Speaking to the BBC's Political Correspondent Iain Watson, Mr Dromey said it was "not true" that he had failed to challenge the paedophile group.
