'Race' charge after disturbance

A 39-year-old man was arrested for an alleged racial breach of the peace following a disturbance in Glasgow city centre on Saturday evening.

A 14-year-old boy was also reported to the children's reporter over the incident in the city's George Square.

A major police operation took place in the square after reports that members of the far-right Scottish Defence League were gathering.

The 39-year-old is expected to appear in court on Monday.

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said: "Officers attended at George Square around 4.50pm on Saturday after information was passed to police.

"A 39-year-old man was arrested and is presently detained in police custody for an allegation of racial breach of the peace.

"Additionally, a 14-year-old boy has been reported to the children's reporter."
