Boy, 10, injured in go-kart crash

A 10-year-old boy has been seriously injured after an accident in a motorised off-road go-kart in Perthshire.

Police said the boy sustained serious head injuries in a crash on private land near Whitehills Farm, Gleneagles, at about 1745 BST on Sunday.

Officers said the EZ Rider battery-operated kart, which was fitted with a roll-cage, was being driven by the boy.

He was on a rough track which leads to a purpose-built quad bike track.

It is believed he lost control of the kart, causing it to leave the track and come to rest in a ditch.

The boy was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where he underwent surgery.

His injuries were said to be "serious" but are not considered to be life-threatening.
