Springboig Bowling club attack injures four

A 72-year-old man was left with serious head injuries after four men were attacked outside a bowling club in the east end of Glasgow.

He was admitted to hospital, along with another victim, aged 21, after the unprovoked attack by a group of about 10 youths outside Springboig Bowling club at 2350 BST on Friday.

Two men, aged 20 and 47, were released after being treated for their injuries.

Detectives were treating the attack on the 72-year-old as attempted murder.

Very serious injuries

The 21-year-old man, who had been attending a private function, was attacked by a group of youths as he went outside.

Three other men attending the function went to his assistance and were also attacked.

Det Sgt Roland Craig said: "Our inquiries have revealed that this would appear to be a totally unprovoked attack on these four men who were merely attending a private function at a local bowling club.

"The injuries that the elderly man sustained are very serious and we are treating this attack in particular as attempted murder.

"We believe that the group of youths responsible had been hanging around the area for quite some time prior to the disturbance taking place outside the bowling club."
