Edinburgh city council awaits by-election result

Polls have closed in a by-election which could alter the balance of power in Edinburgh city council.

The contest in the city-centre ward was caused by an SNP councillor standing down. The future of the Edinburgh trams project was raised in the campaign.

Counting will take place during the day on Friday.

A coalition of the Liberal Democrats and the Scottish National Party currently has control of the council with a majority of just one seat.
