Police hunt supermarket robber

Edinburgh police are hunting a Christmas Eve robber who demanded cash from a man in a supermarket car park.

The victim was forced to his car at a branch of Asda, on the city's Sandpiper Drive, by the attacker, who claimed he was armed with a knife.

The robber walked off empty-handed after being startled by another customer approaching a car nearby.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident, which took place at 15:50.

The victim of the attacker said he felt a hard object being pressed to his side during the incident, although no knife was seen.

The robber, said to be under the influence of drink or drugs at the time, was described as a white, male European in his mid-50s, of heavy build and 5ft 6in.
