Christmas Eve sex attacker search in Edinburgh

Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman while she was heading home on Christmas Eve, after a night out in Edinburgh.

The woman was walking on the city's McDonald Road at 03:25 on Saturday when her attacker struck, police said.

He approached her and attempted to strike up a conversation before he grabbed and assaulted her.

But the woman managed to pull free, before her attacker ran off in the direction of Leith Walk.

Lothian and Borders Police said they wanted to speak to anybody who was in the area at the time.

The suspect was described as about 28 and 5ft 6in, dark skinned, possibly Indian, with short, wavy dark hair, thick black eyebrows, dark eyes and of slim build.

He wore a black coat with a hood and black trousers.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "Officers continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding this incident and the assistance of the public is vital.

"Anyone who was in or around either McDonald Avenue or Leith Walk and saw anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone who can help identify the suspect is also asked to get in touch."
