Man in court over firearms stash

A man has appeared in court charged with possessing a stash of firearms and ammunition.

Terrence James Carvell, 56, from Milton of Campsie, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the find.

It came after police found firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition in a search of a property in the town.

Mr Carvell made no plea or declaration at Glasgow Sheriff Court, and was remanded in custody.

He was charged with five counts of possessing a firearm with no certificate, five counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing ammunition with no certificate in force, possessing a shotgun with no certificate in force, possessing expanding ammunition and possessing a controlled drug.

During Tuesday's planned operation, officers also searched a number of houses in the north of Glasgow, two business premises in the city centre and one in Stirling.
