Great British Bake Off: Scottish student James Morton misses out in final
A Glasgow University medical student has been beaten in the final of The Great British Bake Off.
James Morton, from Shetland, made it down to the final three in the popular BBC2 series.
He was competing against John Whaite and Brendan Lynch, where they created a puff pastry pie called a pithivier, fondant fancies and chiffon sponges.
Wigan-born John Whaite was crowned Master Baker, and now plans to swap law school for pastry classes.
An estimated six million viewers were expected to watch the final.
The student has gathered a cult following thanks to his jumpers.
The BBC2 show, presented by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins and featuring judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, has been one of the surprise hits of the year.
Last week it pulled in 5.6 million viewers, beating Holby City on BBC1, and has sparked a baking revival.
