Scottish companies ended 2012 on a downbeat note.

A new survey by Lloyds TSB Scotland's quarterly monitor shows nearly 40% of firms surveyed said their turnover had fallen.

The findings have been published as First Minister Alex Salmond pledged to work with the oil and gas sector to continue its success.

BBC Scotland's business and economy editor Douglas Fraser reports.
