Cumbrae marine research centre under threat of closure

Help

Residents on the Isle of Cumbrae on the Clyde say the possible closure of a marine research centre will devastate the island's economy.

Around 30 staff are employed at the facility which is a centre of excellence for research into marine biodiversity and microbiology.

They have been told it will shut unless more than £500,000 a year can be found to cover its running costs.
