Gardening programme The Beechgrove Garden will be shown south of the border for the first time when it returns for a new series in the spring.

It has been a hardy perennial in Scotland for 35 years but has not been shown on the full BBC network before.

The show, presented from Aberdeen for more than 30 years by Jim McColl, will be broadcast on BBC One Scotland, with a Sunday morning repeat on BBC Two.

Gardening expert Chris Beardshaw is also joining the Beechgrove team.

He has previously appeared on BBC Two's Hidden Gardens and The Flying Gardener as well as being a regular voice on the weekly Radio 4 Gardeners' Question Time panel.

Beardshaw will join 76-year-old McColl and his co-presenters, Carole Baxter, Carolyn Spray and George Anderson.
