Two 19-year-old men have died in an early morning car crash in Shotts, North Lanarkshire, police have said.

Scott Wilson, from Cleland, and Steven Scott, from Shotts, died when their Renault Clio left the B717 Benhar Road at about 01:50 on Saturday.

The car hit a telegraph pole and two trees.

Two other men in the car were injured. A 20-year-old suffered a punctured lung and was described as serious but stable and a 17-year-old broke his leg.

Police said no other car was involved and appealed for witnesses.

The driver was said to have lost control of the car and it careered across the carriageway.
