Firefighters have extinguished a serious blaze at an industrial unit in Denny, near Falkirk.

Six fire engines and three specialist appliances were needed to tackle the fire, which was made more hazardous by the presence of chemicals and diesel.

Crews from across central Scotland were called to the scene at Leslie Park in Denny at 01:00, the fire service said.

By 08:00 the blaze had been extinguished and crews remained at the scene to dampen down the site.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "Initial crews were faced with a well-developed fire and immediately summoned additional appliances and resources to attend.

"Crews have been challenged by additional hazards in the form of chemicals stored and suspected cylinders within the premises.

"This added to the partial collapse of sections of the roof and walls."

The fire spread to external storage areas and engulfed stockpiles of used tyres.

There were no casualties reported.
