Melissa Reid asks Peru judge for UK prison

18 December 2013 Last updated at 15:08 GMT

Melissa Reid has asked a judge in Peru if she can transfer to a UK prison to serve her sentence for drug smuggling.

Reid, from Lenzie, and Michaella McCollum, from Northern Ireland, were sentenced to six years and eight months each after they were caught with 11kg of cocaine in their luggage in August.

As BBC Scotland's Catriona Renton reports, whether they can be moved to a British prison is a question for both the Peruvian and the UK governments.
