Third of Scots 'confused' about who to call in power cut
More than a third of Scots are confused about who to contact first in the event of a power cut, according to research published by Scottish Power.
A total of 36% said they would contact the company which sends them their electricity bill.
However, the official advice is to call the company which distributes electricity in the region.
About 10% of respondents said they would do nothing and simply wait for the problem to be resolved.
Scottish Power Energy Networks is responsible for electricity transmission and distribution in central and southern Scotland. In the north of the country, Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution is responsible.
The survey, conducted by the polling organisation YouGov, also suggested 46% of Scots believed they are unprepared for a loss of electricity.
Around 26,500 homes across Scotland lost power supplies during the storms which affected the UK in December.
'Theft and vandalism'
The south of England was hit hardest, with many homes without electricity for five days over Christmas. In Scotland, most households had supplies restored within 24 hours.
Power company bosses are due to be appear before the House of Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee later, to answer questions from MPs about their response to the blackouts.
Frank Mitchell, of Scottish Power Energy Networks, said: "Although our electricity network operates at a very high standard, power cuts can occur at any time for a variety of reasons.
"This can include severe weather interruptions, to theft of substation metals and vandalism.
"Given the storms that we've seen in December, we would like to help more of Scotland's residents to have the information they need to be prepared for any loss of power.
"We operate a 24-hour emergency response service and our customers should contact us if they experience a loss of power."
