A woman has died following a two-vehicle crash in Aberdeenshire.

The collision involved a white Vauxhall Corsa and a silver Volvo XC90 and happened at 07:35 on the A952 near the Toll of Birness.

A man has also been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

The Scottish Ambulance Service and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance and the road was closed to allow for crash investigations to be carried out.

Sgt Rob Warnock, from Aberdeenshire and Moray's Road Policing Unit, said: "Sadly I can confirm that a woman has died as a result of the two vehicle collision on the A952 at the Toll of Birness this morning.

"The road would have been busy with traffic at the time and we are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who witnessed the collision to call us on 101."
